Prior to training in counselling and psychotherapy, I studied law and spent many years working in the corporate environment. My career was heading in a direction that conflicted with my passion to help others. It was at this point that I decided to train in counselling and psychotherapy. Through a journey of self-discovery, I found counselling and psychotherapy enhanced my awareness and taught me a lot about who I was emotionally and psychologically. These changes were the results of relational experiences, and whether with family, friends or colleagues, I believe every interaction has shaped my psychological being either positively or negatively. This knowledge forms my basic personal belief in that the 'self' is formed, and therefore can be healed, in relationship.
I have extensive experience working with a variety of issues and providing counselling support with adults and young people within education, charitable and private health care settings across the East Midlands. I am an accredited counsellor with the BACP; this is a recognition of a high standard of knowledge, experience and development ensuring safe and ethical practice. My knowledge and experience spans across both public and private sectors, in both small and large organisations, working with a range of individuals, groups and teams. Alongside Horizon Counselling, for the past 3 years I have been an Area Co-ordinator for a local Children’s Charity which supports children and young people to reach their true potential. I also provide training and development services as an Emotional Wellbeing Consultant, focussing on building confidence in teams through a motivational and creative approach. I focus my energy on supporting clients to enhance their emotional resilience so they can focus on their challenges, acquire new skills and handle stressful situations with ease when managing and dealing with change.
I value the experience of rewarding relationships, and by bringing a fresh, systematic and energising approach; I always provide a safe and confidential space to support my clients in working through their issues. With every client I aim to promote empowerment, so that they may be self-directive and make their own choices for positive change. Through a unique interpersonal style, relationship building capacity and the ability to engage others toward their goals; I endeavour to help others reach their potential and journey toward a more fulfilling life.

I have always enjoyed working with people, so I started my career within health and social care supporting children and adults with disabilities and learning difficulties. I then began my training as a Social Worker gaining good experience with various services in South Wales. My interest in people grew and I eventually made the life changing decision to study counselling and psychotherapy at The Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute. This was an incredible experience that enhanced my self-awareness, challenged my way of thinking and altered my perception on life.
I have since worked for various counselling services within university settings, mental health teams under the NHS, and charitable organisations alongside local authorities all within the East Midlands providing counselling support for both adults and young people. In 2015 I became accredited by BACP; this scheme recognises the achievement of high standards of knowledge, experience and development in counselling and psychotherapy. Since 2016 I have been providing training workshops and consultancy within organisations focussing on personal development, enhancing resilience and emotional wellbeing in the workplace. My specialist knowledge and experiences include counselling for anxiety and working creatively with anger. I do this through providing learning and development workshops as well as one-to-one sessions with individuals. Throughout my work I have discovered the importance of how to manage anger and the implications on our mental health if we do not.
I am also a qualified supervisor and provide counselling supervision in Newark-on-Trent for counsellors within the Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire area. When working with other counsellors, I seek to encourage the development of their knowledge, confidence, competence and creativity to enable them in applying their skills in the professional setting.
I love my work and am always amazed at the strength, compassion, humility and capacity for positive change. My approach as a therapist is Humanistic and Integrative, drawing upon theories and skills best suited to individual needs by recognising every person as unique. I provide new awareness for my clients and encourage their potential for growth and change. Valuing the positive experience of being acknowledged, understood and accepted by others, I provide a safe and secure setting whereby you can be supported in exploring the issues that matter.
