I love my work and never cease to be amazed at the strength, compassion, humility and capacity for positive change. As far back as I can remember I have always enjoyed working with people. Prior to my training in counselling and psychotherapy, I worked within the health and social care profession supporting children and adults with disabilities and learning difficulties in South Wales. Since then, I have worked extensively with young people and adults within schools, universities, private healthcare and NHS settings as a counsellor.
When I’m not a therapist, I love spending quality time with my family, walking my dog, exploring new music, and exercising.
I am passionate about Men’s Mental Health and finding new ways to engage more men – to help them make sense of their internal world, their identity, and how to respond to situations from a place of self-awareness, assertiveness, and self-compassion – and feel more equipped when navigating the difficult periods of life.
I specialise in Couples Therapy. Throughout my life I have always found relationships interesting and thoroughly enjoy working in collaboration with couples towards healing, happiness, and health. In this space, I utilise my sensitivity to tune in to each partner, facilitate awareness, and further understanding. I believe everyone is unique and interesting, and when we feel that the other is interested in us, we are more likely to thrive, and grow in relationship.
I have always had a particular interest in working with Anger which developed into a specific area of expertise for me. Throughout the past 15 years I have enjoyed working creatively with clients as well as fellow therapists to better understanding the causes for anger, and how to use it a positive force for change. I have felt inspired by the transformational shift in self-compassion, clarity, and confidence to becoming more assertive – which I see as vital in the battle against mental health issues such as depression and anxiety.
My core model and approach as a therapist is Humanistic and Integrative. This theoretical stance recognises every individual as unique with a belief that the client knows what is best for them, and a strong emphasis on the quality of the therapeutic relationship. With a heavy psychodynamic influence, I use a developmental, trauma-informed approach to understand my client’s life experiences.
My therapeutic style is centred around respect and empathy, infused with humour and warmth. My aim is to help you alleviate your pain and become more aware of your feelings, and patterns of relating to yourself and others. I aim to provide new awareness and encourage your potential for growth and change. I love working with people who are truly ready to dig in – to do the work necessary to create positive, lasting changes in their lives. With me you can expect a practical and direct, yet down to earth approach – designed to meet you where you are.
I recognise and value the positive experience when I feel acknowledged, understood, and accepted by the others. Therefore, my intent is to welcome you into a safe and secure relationship whereby you can be supported in exploring the issues which matter.
